Greg Kinnan and I went to Guymon yesterday and
worked on the Twin Beech. We completed work on the tail and attached the
tail cone. After lunch, we started preparing window frames for window
installation. Slowly but surely, we are making progress.

Greg Kinnan and I went to Guymon yesterday and
worked on the C-45. We worked on seat installation. We
positioned the seats in the desired locations, identified and cleaned the
mounting hardware, fabricated some spacers for the brackets and started
drilling mounting holes. We noticed some missing hardware pieces.
If we can't find any, we will try to fabricate some. Gregg Downing
will order some mounting screws. We should be able to finish mounting
the seats on the next trip.

Greg Kinnan and I went to Guymon yesterday and
worked on the C-45. Greg had the mounts for the seats and it was
determined that we will need the seats as well to know where to install the
mounts. We removed the floor boards so we will be ready when we get
the seats. We also installed new bolts in the flaps and elevator.
There is a little more work to do in the tail area and then we need to start
putting the windows in. After that, we should be ready to install the
right engine. Slowly but surely we are making progress.

Col. Greg Kinnan and I went to Guymon today and
worked on the C-45. Work done included adding about 100 screws to the
floor boards, hanging the flaps on both wings and hanging the elevator.
We ran out of screws for the floor boards so
more will be ordered. We will probably have to remove the floor boards
at a later date to install the seats but the floors are in place for now.
The flaps and elevator will need to have new
bolts installed at the hinge points but they are in place now and the
installation of the new bolts will be pretty straight forward. We had
some extra help from Gregg's shop today so we decided to take advantage of
the manpower to help position the flaps and elevator.
I have attached a few pictures. She is
beginning to look a lot more airworthy.
We will likely go back next Tuesday if anyone
would like to go along.
Be Blessed!

I went to Guymon yesterday and worked on the
C-45. Boy did it get hot (108). Gregg checked and adjusted cable
tensions for the elevator and rudders. Safety wired one cable
turnbuckle. Began installing the floorboards. Need more screws
and washers to finish. Also need to do some repair work on the tail
wheel lock control cable before center floorboard is installed.

Today the final fuel tank locker cover was
fitted and installed. This job has been a "bear" and quite time
consuming. It was worth the effort due to the pin holes that were
found and repaired. Now we can get on with the job of re-installing
the 'fast' parts.

Col. Greg Kinnan and I went to Guymon yesterday
and worked on the C-45. We worked on replacing the left front wing
tank cover. This required repairing a crack in the skin where the
cover attaches, drilling new holes for the cover hinge and fabricating a
strap to reinforce the area where the hinge attaches and then riveting
everything in place. The cover hinge attachment is now complete.

arrival of our first grandbaby, I was able to go to Guymon yesterday and
resume work on the C-45. I assisted Gregg Downing and his helper
Andrew in riveting new sheet metal to the lower inside portion of the right
engine nacelle. We probably pounded somewhere in the neighborhood of
100 rivets.

Boy did I have fun this past week. I went
to Guymon Friday and worked on connecting the bottom fittings to the right
engine oil tank. Since this is not the original tank, I had to realign
some of the fittings to connect to the hoses. In the process I got a
good bath in dirty solvent and I think I must have bumped my head at
least 40 times. Anyway, the connections have been made and I am still
alive and well.
I plan to go back Tuesday if all goes well.

Yesterday, Tuesday September 21, Col. Flowers
and I went to Guymon and worked on the C-45. We made preparations to
install the right engine oil tank which included replacing some hoses,
flushing the tank, cleaning some fittings and adding chafing material to the
hold down straps. After prep, we installed the tank in the airplane.
Remaining work includes connecting the fittings, connecting the ground
wires and and replacing the cover. Two photos are attached.
I have plans to go back Friday. If anyone
would like to go, let me know.

On Tuesday, August 17, Col. E. Ross Flowers and
I went to Guymon and worked on the C-45. We turned an elevator cable
bolt around that was rubbing on an aluminum bracket and we set the tension
on the elevator cables. We then safety wired the two turnbuckes on the
elevator cables and checked all bolts to make sure cotter pins were
installed. We looked for but could not find 10 anchor plates for the
right engine oil tank cover. These have been ordered and should be
here by next week.
I have attached a couple of photos.

David Albracht and I went to Guymon today and
worked on the C-45. We vacuumed the areas under the floor boards and back
toward the tail section. We checked the pulleys and hardware for the
elevator cables and found all bolts secure with cotter pins installed.
We found two bolts holding the tail wheel bracket that did not have cotter
pins. We installed cotter pins in these two bolts. We added a
reinforcing strip to a fairing on the right wing that butts up against the
fuselage. Photos are attached. Temperatures soared today so it
was pretty hot in the hangar even with a portable A/C operating.

with aircraft green primer. Photos are attached.
We will probably return next Tuesday. If
you would like to go, let me know.

November 4, 2009
Col. Flowers and I went to Guymon yesterday and
worked on the C-45 sheet metal in and around the right engine nacelle.
We fabricated some new pieces to replace some parts that were cracked and
broken. After painting the new pieces with chromate primer, we riveted
them in place. We removed some old rivets that had been drilled but
not removed. There are several more pieces of sheet metal that need to
be replaced.
I will not be able to go back this Saturday,
but if you would like to go, let me know. If there are people
interested, I can coordinate the trip and let everyone know who is going.
There is a lot of work that remains to be done but progress is being made.
Thanks,
John
I went to Guymon this past week-end and worked
on the C-45 Friday and Saturday.
I worked on the fuel gauge sensors and got them
to working. Had to replace one of the sensors. Gregg Downing
helped me calibrate the gauges. I replaced the covers and safety wired
the screws. The fuel tanks are now complete.
Col. Flowers and I are going to Guymon tomorrow
to do some additional work.
I will not be able to go this week-end, but if
you are interested in going, let me know. You don't have to have me
there to work as long as Gregg is in agreement.

Col. E. Ross Flowers and I went to Guymon,
Tuesday, Oct 27 and worked on the C-45.
We installed the 4th fuel tank sump drain and
secured it with safety wire. We replaced some hoses on the tright main
fuel tank overflow line and connected it to the tank. The next step
will be making sure the fuel gauges work and are properly calibrated.
We inspected the right engine oil tank and
found some holes in it. We came up with another tank and changed the
fittings from the bad tank to the good tank.

October 21, 2009
I went to Guymon on Wednesday and worked on the
C-45 fuel tanks. I had to remove the right rear tank to get one of the
fittings installed. I put the tank back in and installed 3 of the 4
sump drains and connected 3 of the 4 right wing fuel lines. After
getting the other sump drain installed and connecting the other fuel line,
the tank gauges need to be tested before the tank covers are installed.
Photos are attached.
The goal is to have her ready to fly by the end
of December of this year. That is only 10 weeks from now with
Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays to work around. There is a lot of
work remaining so we need to get busy. Fuel tanks need to be finished,
the flaps, elevator, right oil tank, right engine, props, windows, and crew
seats need to be installed. After everything is installed, there will be a
lot of testing to be done. Our next work party is scheuled for
Saturday November 7. If you can help. let me know.

I went to Guymon today and worked on the C-45.
I worked on the right main tank gauge sensor. I found some bad wires
and the area was dirty and had some corrosion. The area needs a
thorough cleaning and the bad wires need to be replaced. In that same
area, I had to remove the remains of two screws that had been twisted off.
I also removed, cleaned, inspected and repaired
the four tank drain sump valves. They are ready to be put back into
the tanks, and safety wired. They were in fairly good shape so all I
had to do was clean and replace o-rings.

We had a great day of progress today. John Jowell
has got the instrument panel looking great with the rebuilt instruments
installed. This is very tedious work and John has steadily continued
on this project. Gregg Downing was able to get a lot accomplished with
the rear bulkhead. This is necessary to re-install the tail
wheel. John Webb and Greg Kinnan freed up the bearings on the elevator
and flaps before lubricating. They then removed the fuel tank
hold-down straps and began stripping and cleaning them. John Jowell
also installed the control column "boots" in the cockpit.

On Saturday, 1-26-08, we had a work day in Guymon
for the C-45. Those going were, Jarrod Crandell, Sam Dean, Bruce
Graham and myself. We worked on several items including instruments,
the bulkhead in the tail section, window openings, fresh air duct for
the cabin and inspection and cleaning of the props. Greg Downing said
he hoped we would have the ole gal flying by summer. Our next work day
may be Saturday, February 9 but I will have to confirm that with Gregg and
plan around his schedule. The attached pictures show some of the work
being done. If you would like to help or if you know of someone who
would like to help, let me know. We always have a good time.

Sorry
folks for the long time span since the last update.
We have really been waiting for Gregg Downing to be available to
begin installing the tailwheel bulkhead and tailwheel.
We made a trip in May and worked on the windows frames, cable
bracket, and cabin light & air vent bars.
This month more work was accomplished.
John Jowell completed the rebuilding of
the cable bracket that is installed below the power and prop controls
behind the panel. Greg Kinnan
scrapped the cabin interior ceiling to smooth it out.
Bruce Graham worked with Gregg Downing forming the rear gear area
stiffeners and then drilling the rivet holes in them.
Jowell and Kinnan then begin installing
the cable bracket in the panel (many wires and cables and no room).
We all felt good about our progress and feel very good about putting
“stuff” back on instead of finding things that have to be removed,
repaired and then re-installed.
We will try to schedule more trips this summer while the weather is
good.

We were finally able to get another group work party
together for the first time in three months. John Jowell has made
several trips himself during this period. Bruce Graham, David Graham,
John Jowell, and Greg Kinnan made the trip this weekend and work on various
projects. Gregg Downing was out of town so no work was accomplished on
the rear bulkhead which requires extensive riveting. John Jowell
repaired the cable bracket which was broken in two pieces and is mounted
behind the instrument panel. Bruce Graham and his son David worked on
the window frames which must be cleaned prior to installing the new
windows. Greg Kinnan modified the passenger air vent / light panels
and installed them both in the passenger compartment. Ted Short is
planning a trip to Abilene to remove the nose fuel tank and the tail from
the "salvage aircraft"

This past Saturday, Bruce and James Graham, Greg Kinnan
and I went to Guymon to work on the SNB. Bruce had completed the
bulkhead piece for the tail section of the fuselage and got a good start at
getting it installed. This work requires Gregg Downing to be involved
and he has a lot of people in Guymon seeking his time so we are at his
mercy. When we get this work done, we can put the tail wheel back on
and we will be able to move the airplane outside for a good cleaning.
After we get that done, we will be able to start putting things back
together. I am really anxious to get her airworthy again.
I will let you know when the next work day will
be. If you have some time and would like to go up during the week, let
me know and I will try to make myself available to go with you. I have
attached some pictures that I took Saturday.

This past Saturday,
Greg Kinnan, Bruce Graham, Sam Dean and myself went to Guymon and worked on the
C-45. It was cold outside but nice and warm in the hangar. We
had a productive day.
Work accomplished:
- Removed two defective pieces from the tail (we found another one
that needs replacement)
- Replaced the cotter pins in the bolts holding the elevator cable
pulleys
- Cleaned and inspected the right engine oil tank, transferred the
fittings from the tank with the holes and got it ready to install
- Painted with zinc chromate primer the exposed section of the right
wing spar
- Fabricated some of the instrument hoses
- Freed up the engine primer (it was frozen and would not move)
- Worked on the tail section bulkhead (it should be ready by the next
trip)
Gregg will order the
defective aluminum tail pieces and have them ready to install on our next
trip.
He will also order more
instrument hose and hose fittings.
We may have another
work day this coming Saturday. The following weekend is winter
conference in
Midland
. If you can go to Guymon this
Saturday, let me know.
Thanks,
John

went to Guymon
yesterday and worked on the Twin Beech. I had hoped to get the
elevator back on but when the elevator was removed, Gregg found a bracket
that needs to be replaced. When we get the bracket replaced, the
elevator will be ready to go back on. Gregg had the parts for the
elevator trim mechanisms and I got them installed. I repositioned the
actuator for the elevator trim indicator and it seems to be working okay
now. I removed the instrument panel and brought it home with me so I
can repaint it. Gregg ordered and ;has received the tubing for the
instrument lines.
Our next work day will
be this coming Saturday if weather permits safe travel. I hope you can
make it.
I have attached a
list of work that remains. There may be other things that I
have missed but this is most of it. There is still lots to be done so
all help is appreciated.
Be Blessed!
